Akoko
Akoko is a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant, in the heart of Fitzrovia, that redefines West African cuisine through a contemporary lens. Founded by Aji Akokomi, Akoko—meaning “the first” or “time” in Yoruba—pays homage to the rich culinary traditions of West Africa, blending them seamlessly with modern techniques and British seasonal ingredients. The restaurant’s interiors are a harmonious fusion of African and European design elements, featuring terracotta hues, hand-whittled wooden cutlery, and art installations by Nigerian artist Niyi Olagunju, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and inviting. At the helm is Executive Chef Ayo Adeyemi, whose tasting menus offer a journey through West African flavours, showcasing dishes like the signature jollof rice, suya with ox tongue, and monkfish ballotine. The open kitchen allows diners to witness the meticulous preparation of each course, emphasising the chef-led kitchen experience. Akoko’s commitment to excellence has earned it a place among London’s top culinary destinations, with accolades including a Michelin star in 2024 and recognition in SquareMeal’s London Top 100.
